What is Ayurveda?
Ayurveda means “the science of” or “the knowledge of life” in the
Sanskrit language.
One who practices Ayurveda uses his or her understanding of the
natural world and the flow of the seasons paired with a deep self
knowledge of his/her true nature or state of balance to cultivate
and maintain perfect health.
By learning about the gunas (qualities) of the food we eat and the
life we live we can avoid the imbalances that, left unchecked, could
create serious disease in the body or mind.
The definition of a healthy person, according the philosophy of
Ayurveda is “One who has balanced doshas (bodily humors), balanced
agni (digestive fire), properly formed dhatus (tissues), proper
elimination of malas (wastes), well functioning bodily processes,
and whose mind, soul, and senses are full of bliss....”
Without happiness, you aren’t completely healthy.
